“Old MacDonald had a farm”… the popular children’s song has clearly never gone out of style because visiting local farms has become more popular than ever. One reason for this could be that as our cities become more populated, people are craving an escape to the quiet and calm that a visit to the country can provide. Plus who doesn’t love seeing cute farm animals, whether you’re old or young!  Here is our guide to the best family friendly farms in the area:

Erin Hill Acres Farm

A family sanctuary situated on a 90+ acre farm, open year round, where you can mingle with the furry Highland cows, pick your pumpkins, visit the sunflower and lavender fields and explore the forested trails. You won’t be disappointed by all of the family photo ops this farm provides!

The Fieldstone Barn

This historic hidden gem is walking distance from Elora and they grow sunflowers, cut flowers, apples, corn, pumpkins, seasonal produce and natural raw honey. For those who are adventurous, you can try the corn maze! For those seeking an elevated experience, you can book a night stay in one of their glamping tents where you can gaze up at the stars from your personal hot tub or hammock.

Brae Ridge Farm and Sanctuary

This small farm provides a unique opportunity to meet and interact with adorable Alpacas. You will learn all about them on your private tour or if you would like to experience something even more magical, they even offer yoga with the alpacas.

Heartwood Farm and Cidery

A regenerative farm that creates delicious craft ciders using ingredients from around the farm. Explore their unique forest garden, orchards, grazing cattle, pastured pigs, chickens and farm work horses. They offer extensive behind-the-scenes tours where you can interact with the farm animals, whether it’s cuddling a piglet or hanging out with the sheep and llamas, or sipping craft cider out in the fields with the cows and calves.

Chudleigh’s Farm

Since 1967, families have been visiting this farm to pick their own apples. They grow over 18 varieties of apples across 60 acres of orchard. While apple picking is the main draw, they also offer music and food events throughout the summer and fall.
